Dog parents sometimes choose to throw away pet toys once they are damaged beyond repair, but one golden retriever owner instead opted for “surgery” to save the “murdered” stuffed toy.
The hilarious December 4 clip shared by the iloveretrieverss account on TikTok showed the destructive result of a golden retriever’s overzealous play with a plush toy.
Wearing several face masks, the golden retriever sat patiently while the toy, with its stomach opened revealing the fluff inside, was lying down as though in surgery.
“Our dog murdered his dog,” the first caption on the video read. “So, our dog’s dog had an intense surgery.
“But our dog is a good dog. So our dog assisted the dog doctor to complete surgery of his dog. Surgery of our dog’s dog was successful.”
“Our dog could not stop smiling,” another caption said. “Seeing his dog back alive. Our dog smiled at his dog and said: ‘Welcome back dog.'”
Despite the successful “surgery” the final seconds of the video revealed that the dog had once again “murdered” his toy.
The video, which can also be seen here, attracted around 2 million views and more than 131,400 likes.

Making Dog Toys Last
The Humane Society of the United States said there are ways dog owners can make their toys last longer, which include:
- Rotate your dog’s toys weekly and make only a few available at a time.
- Provide toys that serve a variety of purposes.
- Try introducing interactive toys such as balls, flying discs, and other toys that can foster a bond between person and pet.
- Have dogs find their toys or treats as part of a good rainy-day activity that will lead to them using up energy without the need for a lot of space.
“For young, high-energy and untrained dogs, interactive play also offers an opportunity for socialization and helps them learn about appropriate and inappropriate behavior, such as jumping up or being mouthy,” the organization said.
Online Reaction to Post
The overwhelming majority of people who commented on the video jokingly said the doggy doctor had been excellent throughout, while others said they enjoyed how his nose poked through his facemask.
Heike-Frosty said: “Phew. Everything went well. [The] patient lives.”
Owl added: [A] complicated surgery. Please be quiet, [the] chief physician [is] examining what is happening.”
Alicia commented: “The nose poking through the mask looks boopable.”
While Sheena Kay Irish posted: “The nose poking through the mask. I’ll take him as my surgeon.”
